Tan Hoe Kiat, David graduated from a renowned interior architecture and design school, Baharuddin Institute Singapore (now known as Temasek Polytechnic) in 1980. After graduation, he practised in two top international architecture and design firms as well as several established local interior design companies.
By working with the world's most creative clients from the high fashion boutique, exclusive discotheque, modern lounge, prestigious restaurant & bar, luxury hotel companies, numerous large financial institutions and corporate brands over the course of sixteen years, he became one of the most experienced interior designers in Singapore.
After successfully building an extensive portfolio of corporate, hospitality and retail projects for the world's leading companies and brands, Mr. David Tan and two ex colleagues decided to create the Interior Architecture, Design & Planning Consultancy firm, DavidTan Associates (S) Pte Ltd in 1996.
During the last twenty years, David has planned and designed over 3 million square feet of creative workplace, exciting shop & showroom, inspiring art gallery and fine dining restaurant projects in Singapore, Malaysia and China. One of his designs for Temasek Holdings (Private) Ltd office at level 39 Temasek Tower was selected as a finalist in the corporate / office category of the 2000 Asia DuPont Antron Design Award. In 2007, his design for Singapore branch of the Nike, Inc. office at level 7, Suntec Tower Four was awarded as the first place winner of the Pantone, Inc and Interior Design magazine's Color Outside The Lines design competition in the United States. This design was also featured in the September 2007 issue of Interior Design magazine, USA. In 2011, his design for an Asset Management Firm, Singapore office at level 28, Bank of China Building was featured in the first Best of Office Architecture & Design book by top industry publisher, Interior Design magazine in the United States. DavidTan Associates also has received many accolades for his unique projects.
His drive and determination to keep a long lasting relationship with customers took him to major Asian cities in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai to continue providing his innovative design solutions to meet the client's needs.
Mr. Tan finds the design of the interior space usually challenging and satisfying, combining nature, art and architecture together with unlimited media. David's distinct design approach, characterized by precise detail and idea driven solutions, reflects his 36 years of professional practice and as well as a commitment to improve the human experience through the built environment.
